Faculty, students and community members involved with college student media such as newspapers, yearbooks, radio, television, magazines and online publications are welcome to join California College Media Association.

Membership benefits include:

Awards

Your membership allows you unlimited entries into the annual California College Media Competition at no cost.

Each year, CCMA honors the work of students at California college and junior college publications. This competition allows you to get your campus’ talented, dedicated newspaper, magazine and online publication staff members recognized. There are three divisions: published daily, weekly and less than weekly, and more than 20 categories.

Training opportunities

As a member, you’re invited to attend regional training workshops at a discount.

Past sessions have included editing and advertising boot camps. These are held at the start of the academic year and are a great way to prepare editorial and business staff for the work ahead.

Legislative representation

CCMA represents student media interests in Sacramento and follows legislation that impacts student media.

For example, California signed free-press bill AB 2581 into law making it the first state to specifically prohibit censorship of college newspapers.

CCMA was involved with educational outreach and lobbying efforts on behalf of this legislation.

Critique Trade

Advisers and student editors can have their newspapers critiqued by professional journalists and advisers from other schools who are also CCMA members.

Support

CCMA works with representatives in high school, junior college, university and professional communities to ensure that California’s journalism education needs are being met.

As a member of CCMA, you are supporting students and advisers statewide and will receive that same support in return.

Networking opportunities

You’ll get numerous opportunities to meet and learn from peers working at other California college newspapers and student media outlets. CCMA’s member schools are small, large, public and private.

Membership Fees: 1 year $99
